So You Want To Tie People Up!

Featuring the Burning Man camp Suspended Animation

Sunday July 5th, 2009

2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

at the Center for Sex Positive Culture (CSPC) in Seattle

So you want to tie people up but you don't know where to start?

This workshop will teach you everything you need to know to start tying people up. In addition to technical skills, we'll focus on the "soft" skills required to put together a successful bondage scene.

We'll begin by talking about why we do what we do. There are many different styles of bondage - we'll help you figure out what you're looking for, and how to make it happen.

Next, we'll move on to a few basic rope techniques. Our intention is not to teach you a large number of knots, but rather to give you a set of simple building blocks that you can use to construct whatever position you have in mind.

Once you've mastered some basic skills, we'll talk about what to do with them. We'll teach several different bondage positions and discuss how to choose a position that's appropriate for your particular play style. We'll also spend some time talking about the psychology of bondage and the steps involved in putting together a fun and successful scene.

Much of our time will be spent on practicing the techniques and positions that we're covering. We'll have plenty of assistant instructors on hand to help you learn the material and to answer questions as they come up. In addition, we'll provide you with a handout that you can refer to when you're practicing at home.

We'll provide everything you need for the class, including practice rope. If you'd rather bring your own rope, we recommend one to four 15' lengths.

If you're able to bring a practice partner, please do so. If not, we'll do our best to pair you up with someone. Rope Bottoms: this is your chance to meet some rope tops - come learn and get tied up!

No prior knowledge of bondage or knots is assumed for this class - it's perfectly appropriate for beginners. This class also works well if you've already done some bondage and want to add to your technique.

About Suspended Animation

Suspended Animation was founded in 2008 as Suspense Camp by Zang (who had been to Burning Man once) and Sugar Boy (who hadn't been at all) with critical guidance from Cookie (who had been before, but didn't get to go in 2008). Our mission was to bring a world-class suspension bondage experience to the desert, and with the help of an amazing crew we succeeded beyond our wildest expectations.

Our first year crew was made up of 19 people, only six of whom were burn vets – we had seven years of experience between us. The result was a smashing success. We designed and built structures and camp amenities, ran work parties, organized 15 on-playa events, and pulled off one of the smoothest running camps in Black Rock City. Not bad for a bunch of newbs.
